Bible Study Groups

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17

As part of our vision to live and experience the story of Jesus together, we believe our worship gatherings and Bible study are central to our growth as disciples of Jesus and our community.

Sunday Morning Bible Study Groups

Young Adults
College Class: E208 | Led by Josh Bonelli

Young Professionals: E302 | Led by Steve Shell & Fed Barona

Come for the doughnuts, stay for the discussion oriented, verse by verse study of the Bible. Young couples and singles will find a home in this warm and welcoming group.

Married Class (20s-30s): E206 | Led by Craig Davidson

Married Class (30s-40s): E214 | Led by Tom Williams
Median Adults
Koinonia Class | E213 | Led by John Hosman, Neal Cannon,  & Matt Johnson
We're a diverse group of real people (kids and no kids, single and married, 40s to 70s) who love Jesus and each other. We accept that we are imperfect people — no pretending required. We dig into Scripture through discussion-based Lifeway lessons and challenge each other to live it out. Beyond Sundays, we share meals, book club, and separate men's and women's events. Come as you are, we’ve saved a seat for you.

Killam Class | E205 | Led by Mike Killam
This group of folks in their 30s and 40s invite you to join them to engage with the word in order to be equipped and empowered to serve. Drawing on decades of leadership, Mike writes the studies for this class. They hold quarterly socials to strengthen relationships while placing a strong emphasis on caring for each other throughout each week.

Hatsfelt Class | E204 | Led by Micheal Hatsfelt, Eddie Allison, & Jonathan Minchin
Our class is 40s-60s professionals. Lessons are scripturally sound and discussion-based, often with a light-hearted sense of humor. We are a smaller group and also gather outside of class for lunches and other seasonal fellowship events.

Hodges Class | E210 | Led by John Hodges
Our Bible study meets in room E210 at 9:30 AM. We meet to do in-depth study of God’s Word and encourage one another. Our group is quite diverse. We have folks in their 40s and others in their 70s. We would love some people in their 20s and 30s to add to our diversity. We enjoy our inter-generational mix. Couples, singles, divorcees, and widows study God’s Word together. Typically, the class studies a book of the Bible verse by verse, even the difficult ones. Occasionally there will be a video study for 6-8 weeks. There is some teaching with significant opportunity for group participation. We enjoy socializing outside our Sunday meeting about once every 3-4 months.

Selogy Class | E308 | Led by Joe Selogy
Using curriculum from Lifeway, Joe says he learns more from this fun, discussion-oriented class than he is able to teach them. With get-togethers outside of class and prayer requests shared during the week, this class is committed to connecting with and caring for each other. Their motto is “no barriers, no judgements, just honest people supporting each other.”

Journey Class | E306 | Led by Allen Turner, Mike Goen, & Randy Patterson
We are The Journey Class. Our name reflects the path that each individual is on because we are each in walking with Jesus toward a common destination while occupying unique points along that path. We are primarily 60 year olds but there is no age requirement, just a desire to connect with others and grow in your Faith. We are married, single, widowed, and divorced, and our members are connected with many ministries on our campus. We average 60-65 in class each week and are led by a rotation of three teachers, all encouraging discussion and input from the members. And, we have doughnuts! Please join us on the Journey!

Daniel Class | E209 | Led by Nix Daniel
With more than 40 years of teaching experience, Nix leads this lecture based class with Lifeway curriculum. It is a close group of folks who get together regularly outside of Sunday mornings.

White Class | E201 | Led By Andy White & Bob Greene
If you are in your 60s or 70s and enjoy in depth Bible study with great discussion, this class is for you.

Music Makers | E310 | Led by Dan Bates, Rick Metzgar, & David Ranny
Most in this class are involved in the music ministry, although it is not a class requirement. Using Lifeway curriculum, the teacher leads the study, but discussion is encouraged.
Older Adults
Friendship Class | S220 | Led by Rick Leatherwood
We are a group of adults, primarily in our 70s through 90s, who gather in Room S220 and are affectionately known as the Friendship Class. Our members represent a wide range of ages and bring a wealth of life experience, wisdom, and encouragement to one another. For those who are unable to join us in person, we also offer a Zoom option on Sunday mornings. We warmly welcome adults of all ages to join our caring, prayer-filled class. We follow the Lifeway curriculum and meet each Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

Counselman Class | S208 | Led by Randel Everett, Wade Currington, & Steve Davis
A group of engaging teachers use the GC2 Press Curriculum to lead this class in a mix of teaching and discussion. The class is made of mostly retired adults who love to engage in Bible study and prayer time that spills over from Sunday mornings to the rest of the week with prayer request emails and get togethers.

Callaway Class | S218 | Led by James Callaway, Ned Couey,  & Johnny Madison
This team of teachers have decades of teaching experience and service to First Baptist Church of Pensacola. They use Lifeway’s Explore the Bible series. Sunday mornings are committed to Bible study, but weekly and monthly gatherings outside of class foster loving connections among this group of mostly senior adults.

Keith Class | S215 |  Led by Andy Keith
The class of singles and couples in the 60s-80s focuses on the Bible, using the “Explore the Bible” material to study different books of the Bible. Members are encouraged to study the scripture/lesson using the “Explore the Bible” material and their study notes in their Bibles. Members are also encouraged to contribute to the discussion of the scripture text if they desire. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God and we should study it diligently to “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 3:18

Clubbs Class | S217 | Led by Roger Clubbs &Lynette Edwards
Using the Explore the Bible series, this lecture based class of singles, widows, and married couples also includes plenty of active participation from the group. The class enjoys time outside of class together doing Sunday lunches, holiday lunches, as well as continued support through prayer, meals, phone calls, and emails.
