Singing Seniors Tours

Our Singing Seniors choir is an active group! Not only do they sing and share in their own church, but they also take an extended musical trip about every three to four years. This page will show you some of their activities on their past trips.

CHAUTAUQUA AT RIDGECREST, N.C.

In October of 1995, about 65 of these choir members traveled into the hills of North Carolina to serve as the conference choir for Chautauqua, a convention of senior adults from all across the U.S. In addition to singing at the conference, we also shared in several churches on the way up and back. The following pictures represent some of our activities.

CONFERENCE CHOIR

As the Conference Choir, we shared at each worship service nightly, then gave a full concert on one of the last nights of the conference.

TALENT SHOW A HIT!

On the fourth night of the Conference there was a Talent Show, and two of our members participated in that. To the left, Elaine Booker keeps her listeners in stitches as she does her stand-up comedy routine; to the right, Elliott Dobelstein talks to his audience before playing the harmonica.

FELLOWSHIP ON THE BUS

A lot of fun is had while enroute. Here Frank and Jackie Rush pose for an impromptu picture on the bus.

WARMLY RECEIVED

It seemed like everywhere we went, the people got friendlier and friendlier. Meeting new folks in other places is a great part of every trip.

ANTICIPATING THE CONCERT

As we arrive at a host church, we quickly set up, then rehearse to do any last minute polishing on our music. Here the choir listens intently as they're introduced at a church in Chattanooga.

NOT ALL SINGING!

There's a lot of just pure old playing on our Singing Seniors trips. We visit many interesting sites. To the left, Bob and Annette Morrison pose on top of Mt. Mitchell.

SLEEPING ON THE RUN!

On the right, Dona Usry catches up on some much needed sleep on the bus.

CHAUTAUQUA AT GLORIETA

Almost exactly two years after Ridgecrest, we traveled west to Glorieta Baptist Conference Center (October of '97) to do the same thing...serve as the Conference Choir. Glorieta is located about an hour east of Santa Fe, New Mexico.

A BEAUTIFUL SPOT TO WORSHIP GOD

To the left is the beautiful Tower that adorns the main worship center on the campus of Glorieta. Just looking at it brings back many wonderful memories.

DOING OUR THING!

Here we are singing for one of the services in the Worship Center at Glorieta Conference Center.

ALMOST HEAVEN . . .

Our ladies were so excited to meet Dr. T.W.Hunt, the author of a study they had been doing on prayer back in Pensacola. He personally led a similar study for us while we were at Glorieta.

OUR FIRST STOP: LONGVIEW

The concert went well; all systems were go . . . until the next morning!

NOT A GOOD SIGN

The next day proved eventful, as our bus gave us trouble. We had to take a substitute bus from there to Lubbock, where our original bus caught up with us. From there on, it was smooth sailing.

AN APPROPRIATE MASCOT

Our Leisure Timers group from FBC are often called the Road Runners. Here we pose with a real road runner in Ft. Stockton, Texas.

LOTS TO SEE AND EXPERIENCE

We covered a lot of territory on this trip, and got to see a lot of sights. Los Alamos, N.M., the site where the Atomic Bomb was invented, was one such place. To the left is Bill Morrison posing with a replica of that bomb.

REMEMBER THE ALAMO

Here a group poses in front of San Antonio's ALAMO. Other sites visited included Carlsbad Carverns and the JFK Museum at the site of his assassination in Dallas, Texas.

A DAY WITH RALPH CARMICHAEL
All of our trips are not cross-country. Our most recent musical outing took about 55 of us to Ocala's First Baptist Church in our own state. The state's Senior Adult Choir Celebration was held there, and it featured a legend in modern day church music, Ralph Carmichael, as the guest clinician. Pictured here are two of our ladies - Evelyn Roberts and Trudy Wilson - having their picture made with Ralph during a break from rehearsing.
